When will I become debt-free?If your creditors accept a Full and Final Settlement offer, you become debt-free once the lump sum payment has been made. What lump sum of money could I use?The lump sum of money could be from selling something of value, like a property or antique for example, from savings, remortgaging your home to release capital, or a donation from family or friends - there are many different reasons why could find you have a lump sum of money at your disposal. If I make a Full and Final Settlement offer, will my creditors accept it?Not necessarily. There are no guarantees that they will accept your offer but sometimes creditors accept offers to avoid the expense of having to take legal action, or because they realise that you are unable to pay any more than the sum being offered because of your financial situation. Can I use a lump sum to pay off more than one creditor?Yes. You can divide the lump sum of money between your creditors, offering to pay a proportion of what you owe on a pro-rata basis. Will paying a Full and Final Settlement affect my credit rating?Your creditors should mark the debt as 'Satisfied', so that future searches on your credit file will show that you have dealt with your debt successfully and owe no further debt to those creditors.
